I like your last point about the UN seeking a cure-all for poverty and climate change. Given the levels of government corruption and cultural differences as you mentioned, the ideas to simply send in large companies and partner them with NGOs would not be as effective as imagined, and definitely take years to implement. Foreign investment is such an important part of a growing a developing economy, yet there are barriers to said investment that we didn't get to address in our presentations. Sometimes the short term profit of oil does seem like a good idea in terms of growing the economy, even though dependence will be negative in the long run.
